Roles That Made Hope Davis Famous

Hope Davis had a relatively late start on Hollywood, landing her first major film credit at the age of 26. That said, she has certainly managed to make an impression in the last 20+ years. Davis has been nominated for two Golden Globes and has some very heavily-anticipated projects on her schedule. Here are just a few of her most notable roles.

"Flatliners"

Unlike some actresses who have to start at the bottom with B-movies and single episode TV appearances, Hope Davis had a great start with her first film credit. She played Anne Coldren in the 1990 sci-fi thriller "Flatliners." Her co-stars included greats like Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Bacon.

"Mumford"

Nearly 10 years after she got her start in "Flatliners," Davis landed one of her first big leading roles in the 1999 comedy "Mumford." In "Mumford," she plays a woman that suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome. She goes to the new town therapist looking for an explanation and finds love instead. While the role did not earn her any award nominations, it did distinguish her as a strong leading lady.

"American Splendor"

In 2003, Davis was a standout supporting character in the groundbreaking, semi-animated dramedy "American Splendor." This role earned Davis her first Golden Globe nomination and paved the way for a succession of critically-acclaimed supporting roles over the next decade.

"In Treatment"

One of Davis' most notable recent roles was in the second season of the acclaimed TV series "In Treatment." Davis started off the season playing the doctor's first new patient, who ultimately was a disgruntled old patient. This performance earned Davis her second Emmy nomination.

Hope Davis also recently portrayed a strong supporting role in the popular HBO mini-series "Mildred Pierce" and tried her hand at family films by playing the mother of the child lead in "Real Steel." These films and others make Hope Davis a much-loved actress that graces the silver screen in notable roles that have led to accumulate a host of awards and nominations.
