Hope Davis Movie Quotes

The actress Hope Davis has over three dozen film and television roles to her credit. Davis has appeared in everything from slapstick comedies to the darkest of dramas. During her 20-plus years in the business, Hope Davis has had the honor of delivering a number of notable movie quotes; below are just three of the best.

"Mumford"

In 1999, Davis played Sofie Crisp in the comedy Mumford. Sophie was a neurotic and tired young woman who found comfort and ultimately love in her visits with her therapist, Dr. Mumford. Here is just one clever exchange from early in their visits:

Dr. Mumford: "Sofie, lie down. Most people do."
Sofie Crisp: "I'd better not. I'll fall right to sleep. I think it's a bit too soon for me to be sleeping with you."

"About Schmidt"

In 2002, Davis had the daunting task of playing Jeannie Schmidt opposite Jack Nicholson in the dramedy "About Schmidt." The following rant was Jeannie's embittered response to her father's advice that she not marry her fiance:

"All of a sudden you're taking an interest in what I do? You have an opinion about my life now? Okay, you listen to me. I am getting married the day after tomorrow and you are going to come to my wedding and you are going to sit there and enjoy it and support me or else you can just turn right around right now and go back to Omaha."

"Charlie Bartlett"

In 2007, Hope Davis once again showed her comedy chops by playing the loopy mother of the lead character in "Charlie Bartlett." Here is one particularly funny and poignant exchange from the movie:

Marilyn Bartlett: "Well maybe there's more to high school than being well liked."
Charlie Bartlett: "Like what specifically?"
Marilyn Bartlett: [thinks for a second] "Nothing comes to mind."
